Thanks to travita for sharing this growler.

The beer pours black with a brown head. The aroma is roasted malt with some chocolate and coffee. The flavor is a mix of dark and milk chocolate with some roasted malt. Medium bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Served on draft at the brewpub in San Antonio.

Pours pitch black and completely opaque with a two finger dark mocha head with good retention, slowly fading into a lasting head. Minimal spots of lacing are left behind.

Very roasty smokey aroma with hints of chocolate, toffee, oatmeal, burnt toast, subtle hops, sweet lactic and bitter dark chocolate. Surprising how smokey and roasty it is.

Medium, slightly viscous body with a prominent hop presence up front that lingers throughput. Lots of smokey malts with hints of roasted chocolate malt, bitter dark chocolate, roasted coffee bean, oatmeal, subtle lactic cream and milk chocolate. Again, this beer is very roasty but decently balanced. A bit thin toward the finish which is slightly dry. This beer was a pleasant surprise and the best I sampled at Freetail. Highly recommended. Please bottle this and send it to Philadelphia!

On-tap at the brewpub.

Pours black with a one-finger brown head. The head dissipates into a patchy layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of deeply roasted malts with good amounts of unsweetened chocolate and smooth coffee. As the beer warms the roasted malt flavors sweeten a bit and the coffee aromas fade.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Roasted malt and coffee flavors that are just short of burnt kick things off. Midway through the sip dark chocolate flavors enter into things to counteract the bitter coffee however both flavors share equal billing. These all carry through to a solidly bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with moderate carbonation.

Drinkability is very good. I finished my glass very quickly and could easily have a few more.

Overall I was very impressed with this "single" stout. Very well done and as flavorful as they come in such a small package. Well worth a shot.

A - Pours black with a rich dark brown head that gradually dissipates into a solid ring of foam. Lacing is moderate.

S - Roasted marshmallow, toffee, molasses, dark chocolate, and a hint of coffee combine to create an enticing aroma of roasted sweetness.

T - Sweet, milky notes of caramel and molasses dominate up front, followed by a more subtle bitterness characterized by notes of espresso and dark chocolate. The roasted sweetness of the malts are the most dominant, however.

M - Full-bodied and somewhat creamy. Finishes clean and smooth.

D - This is a very enjoyable stout, and extremely sessionable as well. Maakoos is solid proof that a stout doesn't have to be 10%+ abv and barrel-aged to knock your socks off. I'll definitely be back for more of this delicious brew!
