I haven’t tried this in a while. Certainly haven’t kept up with all the changes over the years, so this could be a new recipe for 2021 or the same one from the past couple of years.

Canned for the Dia de los Muertos 2021. First enjoyed after purchasing in July, 2022. Subsequent tastings in October and November, 2022.

Pours the color of used oil, dark black with a cocoa tinged cap of foam.

There’s a bit of roast and a surprising amount of smoke on the nose. Lots of smoke. Think Laphroig, even.

It mellows out on the sip, balanced by a dark chocolate and cup of Joe. It’s a little harsh initially— perhaps from the hops?—but not in an unwelcome way. Around the year mark it mellows out. I still have one can remaining to age and see how it develops.
