Bottle (2013)

Acquired via trade
Thanks, wagenvolks and xpimptastikx!

Gusher!

Deep, dark auburn, nearing on brown in color with a moderately-sized brown head of small bubbles. Decent lacing left down the glass.

The aroma is better than the flavor with notes of chocolate powder, a bit of candy bar sweetness, and a bit of a fruit/fruit skin character as well. This smells metallic in a way that will present itself further in the flavor.

The flavor is overridden with a metallic/off flavor that makes this nearly undrinkable, at least for a pleasurable experience. Underneath the metallic notes are some faint chocolate, nut, and candy bar character.

Thin to medium bodied with somewhat high carbonation, especially for the style. Perhaps this one is infected.

A decent idea, but something bad happened here, unfortunately. I suspect this is infected and not as the brewer intended.

22oz bottle from a trade with Canadianghetto. Thanks! Into a snifter.

A: Pours a red-hued mahogany color with a soft off-white head. Good lacing.

S: Cocoa is most apparent, giving the nose a dusty chocolate aroma. Subtle coconut, toffee, and some light apple-like esters underneath. Interesting.

T: The taste is more understated. Light dry cocoa, a bit nutty, caramel, brown bread. Finish is light and a bit watery.

M: Light-bodied, moderate carbonation, too thin.

O: While the beer tastes ok, it ends up a bit too light and thin for a "robust German Chocolate-inspired brew." Interesting idea, but it could have been executed better.
