Cask at Three Tuns in Bishop's Castle. Amber / dark gold. Frothy lasting off white head. Aroma flowery citrus - lemon and orange- and apple and hint of resin. Taste full bodied. Nice candied orange with hint of apple juice and fresh bread. Lots of fresh white bread with hint of marmalade in finish. Slightly oily - creamy , full bodied feel. Firm but moderate sweetness balanced with zesty bitterness. Outstanding.

On cask at The Blue Boar in Ludlow.
A well balanced beer with an underlying fruitiness.
Served as it should be and at the correct temperature. An Autumn treat.

Hand pulled pint in a local pub, a standard UK sleeve being the receptacle. Not as light in colour as it’s bottled version, or so it seemed to me anyway: the same off-white head on top, but lasting longer than my bottle review.
A mixed bag of smells; malts and hops combining to produce a pleasing and beery aroma.
The flavours were also a good blend of sweetish malts and spicy hops (Goldings and Fuggles I believe). Re-created to taste like a 19th century IPA, wouldn’t know if they’ve got it right or not, but it certainly tastes good! A rural, rustic feel to it with a citrus bittering towards the end of each mouthful.
Good character and body, suits the 5.0% ABV it carries: not sure a 19th century IPA would have been this clear to look at, but I liked it in both bottle form and in cask (on more than one occasion).

Coming in a 500ml brown bottle, filtered but not sure if it's pasteurised. BB July 09, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass.
A: pours a bright golden hue with great clarity and a well-lasting puffy off-white head, while the extra-mild carbonation sustains throughout the drink.
S: lightly grapefruit-peel like citrus-ness and super mild, slightly nectar-ish, pale malts make up the major aroma. Not terribly complex, but the message is clear that it tries to be a hoppy brew, for sure.
T: a mixed foretaste of bitter grassy hops and very light and fine salty-sweet maltiness gradually gives way to a rather spicy and chewy touch of maybe dry-hopping effect in the finish that is simultaneously zesty-fruity in taste and dry in palate.
M&D: the mouthfeel stays consistently mildly carbonated, with loads of microscopic fizz tingling the taste buds; the body is medium, the flavour is moderate, and the level of bitterness is impressive and goes right deep down the sides of the tongue. The website of this brewery says this ale is actually meant to replicate the old-fashioned India Pale Ale. Well, not a bad attempt at all, I say!
