First had on at NOLA Tap Room on draft into 12-oz. snifter. Not much to look at, as barrel-aging apparently killed the head, but big and bold enough to stand up to the McClure's Barbecue on offer at the Tap Room.

Poured into a tulip glass at Saltine, Jackson, MS

A: Dark brown (the color of rum) with a tan one-finger head that dummed down pretty quickly. Thick lacing.

S: Rum heavy with malts in the background. Could smell this one all day.

T: More rum, which is so good, interspersed with chocolate malts and some dark fruit. A real sipper and even better as it warms. Th alcohol definitely takes over quickly.

M: Medium to heavy with medium, dry carbonation.

O: A real treat. Glad I finally got to sample this one. The rum aging makes Rumplestoutskin a delight. Cigar lovers would enjoy puffing a big one with this sipper.

Growler purchased at the NOLA Brewing Taproom. Poured into a Funky Buddha Brewery snifter.

A- Pours a fully opaque black color with a 1/2 inch light brown head that retains well before it becomes a thick ring around the edge of the glass and some light, wispy surface foam. Non-resilient lacing leaves a thick ring behind.

S- Dark roast, a decent amount of barrel presence and a hint of caramel. Also some chocolate and vanilla.

T- The flavor holds more dark roast and some charry vanilla from the oak. Some cherrywood and dark fruit notes come through as well. A touch of band-aid astringency actually works well in the context of the rest of the profile. So smooth for the ABV.

M- Semi-creamy with medium low carbonation and a full body.

O- Irish Channel Stout is already a great beer and this treatment just magnifies all its greatness. The barrel aging adds a layer of complexity while also upping the ABV and making for a slow-sipping yet easy to drink final product

Appearance: Pours a deep black with a finger of dark brown head that fades to a nice splotchy lacing.

Smell: Roast, strong alcohol, a bit of chocolate. The barrel aging is very apparent as the beer warms. Bordering on too much alcohol in the smell, but still inviting with a nice smokiness.

Taste: Some chocolate and coffee, with some earthy stout notes, but a definite nice complexity is added by the rum barrel aging. It is there without overpowering the standard Irish Channel Stout.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with a bit of burn from the alcohol but a nice creaminess. A good sipper for sure.

Overall: A solid beer here from NOLA. Worth a try if you can get to the taproom.
