Pours pitch black, with a minimal, slightly bubbly head.
The aroma had some nice sweet rum and oak, with a good bit of vanilla, but only a bit of coffee and cocoa.
The taste had a bit of rum barrel bite initially, and a predominant bitter coffee finish. As it warms, you get some hops and the cocoa and vanilla become more noticeable.
It's not thick, and the carbonation from the cask was not high at all on the carbonation at all. The feel was still pretty good given the situation.
There were definitely some nice elements. It's not a homerun, but it was a nicely done for a first attempt by my local Nola.
This officially starts Nola's barrel aged program, and I look forward to what it brings.
