Venatrix, the huntress, has waited out her prey for more than a year! At last this carefully crafted sour can release her undeniably tart raspberry allure to your senses. A fully conditioned and aged wild sour ale, Venatrix Framboise is refined in its Belgian-inspired Lambic origins and refreshing in the burst of her puckering raspberry profile.

650ml bottle - don't know what owls have to do with sour beer, but ok, I'll bite.
This beer pours a clear, dark red-brick brown colour, with two fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and yet fizzy beige head, which leaves essentially nothing in terms of lace anywhere near the glass as it quickly blows off.
It smells of tart lemon juice, underripe raspberries, semi-sweet caramel malt, red balsamic vinegar, a minor musty funkiness, and very tame earthy and floral green hop bitters. The taste is mixed raspberry, cranberry, and lemon 'fruity' notes, gritty and grainy caramel malt, a hint of Low Countries yeastiness, some mild barnyard funk, and more plain and understated leafy, weedy, and floral verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly active in its je ne sais quoi frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and way more smooth than this sports fan might have been expecting. It finishes trending dry, the muddled dark berry fruitiness and vinegary essences holding court.
Overall, this is not quite the hot mess that others in the beer-o-sphere have been bitching about in the last month or so, but I'm guessing that there are bottle variations, given the polarity of the situation. At any rate, while not an off-bottle, mine is just kind of boring, the promised raspberry character too muted. Not worthy of the elevated shelf tag, even though I can acknowledge what went into producing this offering.

A: slight head that dissipated quickly. Deep purple liquid and slight carbonation.
S: It smells medicinal and solventy.
T: Raspberries, musty barnyard, orange pith, medicinal.
M: Great mouthfeel for the style.
O: I am hoping that the undesireable aromas and flavours are from young pedio.
