The Usaquen stout is better than most micro stouts...but certainly not the best. The beer poured dark, but you could still see some light through it. There is thin slightly off white head that is leaving a lace. The scent is roasty with some earth tones. The taste has a nice balance with coffee roast present as well as a hint of anise. The mouthfeel is lighter than I prefer my stout wirh smooth carbonation. Overall it is a decent offering from BBC!

First beer reviewed after achieving 7 years as a BA.

It had been a long while since i'd come to the BBC, since i was away from bogota for a few months and was kinda broke. but a nice sunday luncheon was good timing to try their current seasonal.

In general, a nice, dark thick stout appearance, certainly not translucid, with a medium tan head which doesn't seem nitro, not too thick, dissipates quickly and leaves just a subtle lacing.

smell is a down-tuned version of their porter, IMO. very discrete coffee and roasted malt notes. you have to really get your nose in there, though.

I'd dare claim it is rather an american stout than an english stout because the taste is much richer than the latter. very malty, although not so sweet as the porter, this one strikes more in terms of its body and blends- the other strikes as flavorful. nonetheless, this resembles quite nicely the amstout of the likes of SN. dark, bitter ending. in a good way.

All in all this is a nice beer, worthy of its producer, however i'll stick to some other of the beauties the BBC handles (namely, policarpa la fuerte. i'm hoping for that season again!)
