Taking one of Brazil's best breweries and releasing a beer in honor of one of Brazil's best beer stores certainly gets the pulse racing. Now, imagine a barleywine aged with French oak chips. I owe srbcurti many thanks for this gift, which I'm honored to have. Out of a corked and caged mini-magnum, on to the beer;
A short lived head leaves spotty lace of a beer that is ruby brown colored. The beer has a fruity aroma, perhaps being from the house yeast. I don't feel that I get the whole aroma, it feels like I'm missing the oak chips to complete it. It is what it is, but my hopes are rebounded with a taste. There's some oxidation which produces notes of sherry. There's that oak I'm looking for, raw and strong. It has a fruity base flavor, which also includes dates and fruit snacks. The beer is full bodied, and paired with light carbonation and an 11.5% ABV which goes into hiding, helps make Wals EAP Barley Wine a beer worth trying.
