Thanks to Ryan011235 for this wax-dipped(?) 12 ounce bottle, poured into a LaChouffe tulip. The label advertises this both as bottle conditioned and open fermented "real ale". Confused, I hack into the wax and get down to business. Summer pours hazy gold with a thin off-white head and scant lacing.

Timid pale malt nose with lemony overtones and a curious vegetative background presence. Puzzingly, the flavor is much more in-your-face, and not in a good way. Overly carbed with mineral and aspirin harshness. Tart, tangy, gritty with a vague funkiness. A dry finish in my mouth, but a wet finish in the sink drain. How do you manage to screw up something like a simple pale ale to this degree? (I reckon open fermentation is a good start...)

A golden dark-yellow with a mild haze, this pale ale develops a big, fluffy near-white head with fairly good retention and good, sticky lace.
In the smell there's an English-style slightly metallic note with some earthy hoppiness balance drier malts, even as a note of wood sneaks out.
The taste is definitely brighter than the smell. There's still some dry, woody character along with a flash of white grape before grains sneak in underneath.
Light to medium in body, there's a creaminess to this beer that balances with a light crisp nip. It's semi-dry as hoppiness edges into the finish.

Summer Brewed by Indigo IMP Brewery with an ABV of 6.40%. This brew pours out a cloudy amber color with a white head. I'm going out to say this brew is unfiltered you can not see thought it. Also there is stuff floating around in the glass. The brew has a lot of carbonation in it. The smell is sweet with some grains and some bitterness. Now for the taste, it is bitter sweet with some spices. There is a lot going in this brew. The taste is good, it is different than any brew I ever had before. This brew goes down smooth with a clean finish. Mouthfeel is nice and clean. Overall all I'm giving this brew a 3.50 out of 5.
This is a strange brew but in a good way.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass
A: One-finger lingering head on top of a hazy golden-wheat colored brew that has lots of carbonation and a little yeast floating throughout.
S: A bit sweet, with apricot notes along with just a hint of orange/citrus hops. Slightly muted.
T: Also muted, but I'm picking up stone fruits, citrus and grain.
M: Very smooth, fairly light.
O: Indigo Imp's brews can be hit or miss with their open fermentation, but this is one of the more pleasant beers I've had from them. The bottle notes say it's "brewed exclusively with Northern Brewer hops" and I personally feel more varieties would give it more depth, though I appreciate tasting what a single variety contributes. Overall makes a pleasant beer to sip on a warm day.

Poured into an Allagash flute on 7/18/12

A two finger off-white head rests atop a stale, cloudy, dulled pineapple juice, jaundiced-looking thing of a beer. Head retention is much thinner. No lace.

Notes of grass, herbs, orange peel and lemon juice make for a twitchy aroma. Tart apple overtones. Dusty yeast tones and hints of cracker. The aroma develops a touch of bready sweetness as it warms. The combination of musty citrus, grass and herbal notions are downright pesky when carried by such an over-carbonated body. The amount of carbonation is beyond distracting. The finish has some dry hop prickliness and a dusting of bread and cracker crumbs.

This is far from the worst Indigo Imp beer I've had. It's easily sub-par, but not wretched.

Overall impression - Time to swirl out that carbonation.

Served from the bottle into a becker glass

A- Bright clear golden color beer with a one head soapy head that dissipated quickly. A little ring of head remained for the whole glass and left some lace.

S- Very floral and lemon zest. Smells like a kolsch

T- Pretty big floral and lemon zest flavors, some herbal presence. Finishes pretty bitter and has a slight refreshing tartness in the middle of the tongue

M- Very crisp and clean, refreshing, with a dry bitter finish

O- Nice refreshing beer for this 80 degree day in October. Well crafted beer that tasted like a traditional Kolsch. I don't expect traditional from Indigo Imp, but this was a very traditional tasting beer with their own little twist.

Summer - Indigo Imp Brewery. Poured promptly from the bottle into a glass with the characteristic of a nitro can, this brew's got a 2 finger thick, a slightly off white lumpish head, somewhat decent lacing, a hazy golden body, and little floating bits of who knows wtf....

The smell is acrid with a poor attempt at lemongrass. Maybe some moldy/dank earthiness, too. Not very pleasing to my own personal sense of smell.

I taste some very tart lemon, balanced by some, dare I say, tastes of honey? I can't detect any hop characteristics with this brew.

Mouthfeel is very lively and fresh. I believe that I can notice the fact that this brew was "open fermented" and "bottle conditioned".

Overall a 3.25 for Summer - Indigo Imp Brewery. At first, I thought this brew was gonna be crap based on the musty scent and little sediment floaties. Turns out, it ended up being a fairly decent find at my local craft retailer.
