Got this one at the supermarket while on vacation in Brittany, France.

From a bottle into a snifter
Best before February 2016

APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, medium looking, creamy, light tan head with good retention. Dark brown body with no real carbonation evident. Head fades to a wisp and ring leaving touches of lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Dark fruits, raisins, dates, with some caramel and toffee sweetness on the nose, Much like a dubbel or a stronger dark Belgian ale.

TASTE: Burnt malts and dark fruits up front. Medium but lingering finish of dates, grapes, roasted malt notes, burnt coffee and some caramel sweetness. Some bitterness from the burnt flavors add balance to the sweetness here. More interesting and complex than the nose.

PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Semi-creamy on the palate, goes down fine and finishes slightly dry.

OVERALL: Not bad at all. Perhaps the recipe has improved over the last few years, as this is much better than previous reviews have made it sound. The nose and flavor don’t really match, but this is definitely something worth checking out if you’re in the area.

Pours a dark brown with a medium head that dissipates quickly. Smells of dark roasted malt and a little acid, with a wet horseblanket. Taste is sweet and sour with dark malts and bitter dark chocolate. Drinks OK, but one is enough. This beer has some interesting elements, but is not very well integrated.

This beer pours a red brown color and has a fine bubbled head.
Smell is slightly acidic with some chocolate and sour cherries, quite bitter.
Taste is slightly acidic (lactic acid) and is dominated by dark malts, which remind me of cherries. Mouthfeel is dry and rather empty. I don't know if this is ment to be like this or an infection, I did not like it very much.

Dark brown, copper reflexes. Brownish foam, scarce and with little persistence.
The taste is fruity, citric, quite tart. Wood, cork, artichoke.
Tartness and sourness in the taste too, with notes of roasted and slightly smoked. Green wood. But the tartness?
Is this beer intended to be like this one?
In the aftertaste: artichoke, wood, roasted over all. And the tart notes again.
Medium body.

All Coreff beers are non filtered. The Coreff Brune, although its name makes it a brown is described as a porter on the brewery's website.

I've nothing to add to what prAna said regarding the appearance and the smell...

The woody flavor was very strong when I tasted the beer. The bitterness of the beer came from hints of cherry and chocolate, which leave a pleasing aftertaste. The alcohol content somehow felt stronger than the 6.5% abv the label announces.

As for the drinkability, I've had this beer twice now and wouldn't mind having another one some day. I didn't appreciate it that much, but it wasn't bad either. Among Coreff beers, this one may not be my favorite one but it is the most complex and interesting in taste.
