Poured into my crystal mug, this beer is a very cloudy amber light brown. The bubbly tan head builds about one finger high and dissipates fast. Little lacing.
The smell is faint, mabe some lemon or lime.
The Tate is interesting at first, but quickly turns very astringent. Lemon and lime flavors up front, some sort of hop present, but not much balance. I try to give this attractive bottle a fair chance, but I think I would never buy it again.

When Captured By Porches started brewing on Clinton Street, they offered an ale called simply, Amber Ale, and a märzen called Red Emma Lager. Today they brew this Red Emma Amber, a beer brewed to organic standards whose unfortunate disposition inherited none of its forebear's more agreeable features.
Red Emma is dark sorrel with a light head that soon fades. It is notably turbid in a manner that can't apply to a lager. Its taste is gruff, in my view from excess bittering with insufficient recourse to malt balance. The modest 32 IBU can't explain the beer's uncomfortable edginess. It has a slightly doughy aroma and a long bitter finish that lingers with hop salad leafiness. The taut, astringent mouthfeel is especially troubling.
