16oz can from Beer Emporium (Corvallis). Clear golden pour with a huge fluffy head. Musty, tropical fruit aroma. Taste is caramel, tropical, melon, dry.

I have read quite a few of the reviews & I understand why people may not like it. As an IPA, it is on the malty side. The hops does come through in the finish though & I thought it was a decent beer overall. Cloudy orange with a thin, tan head. Minimal lacing. Low on the carbonated side. Aroma is stone fruit and bread malt, with orange and yeast. The flavor has the bread malt up front & then some citrus, fruit, and floral notes follow. A bit of hops bitterness at the end, but not much. Doesn't leave a bad aftertaste though & it's quite drinkable.

One of those old fliptop 1L bottles, coveted by homebrewers.

Top almost became a product liability issue as it burst right off when opening, nearly taking an eye out, this ain't no red rider bb gun yall! A darker brown appearance, head inconsistent, lots of particulate floating all over the place. An aroma that was more like a plate of dinner than a beer.

Very bitter stuff, not much in the way of flavor. Nothing was enjoyable about the product, just merely a cool bottle you can reuse.

I have not had many organic ales so far and I know that this is an experimental batch. With that said, Invasive Species does not disappoint unless you are after a hopped out, punch me in the face, IPA. The Citrus rings through and yet still rounded to keep your mouth calm and relaxed, allowing the bouquet to bring in the essence of sweetness. The malt does well holding hands with the chosen hops and delivers a unique and memorable bouquet which of course couples magnificently with the mouth feel. It is easy to see when unique is done very well, and here is where it can be found. If you want a memorable IPA that does not fit the mold and walks its own line and brings its own excellently executed characteristics, then do not pass up this beauty. Well done Captured by Porches for staying true to your Oregonian individualistic roots.

I really liked this. It's a monster of an IPA with lots of hop bitterness, a nice malty backbone, and a tinge of amber character that helps round out the bitterness well! Slightly amber in color, medium/thick mouthfeel. Would definitely buy again.

Nice looking IPA. About two fingers of off white head and good amount of lace. Head lasted at least five minutes. Smell is not much. A bit of grain and some dank hops.
Taste is standard American IPA but not as bold as the West Coast style. IBUs are now listed as 70 and it is plenty bitter. The hops are not complex at all just bitter.
Mouthfeel is just above light and carbonation is just enough.
Overall an average IPA. Plenty drinkable but not one I plan to revisit.

Pours a slightly hazy amber with an orange tint. Really nice cream puff head in the tall glass. Bubbly streamers and plenty carbonated in the mouth. If I had been given this in a blind tasting, I would have said it's a pleasantly dry cider with a touch of sugar and a surprising bitterness. The attractive foam lasts to the bottom of the glass. There is a woody and earthy taste. Nothing seems to identify itself as either grain or hops, so it's a rather mysterious concoction. It even smells like pears and apples.

I can see why people would rate this low as an IPA, but think outside the box. If you don't try to think of this as a beer it's a pretty good appley, tart drink with a bitterness like an Italian aperitif. Might be good over ice with a lemon twist. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Market of Choice on 29th in Eugene.

Shared with a friend and poured into two small tulip glasses.

A- Totally unfiltered and it shows, very hazy, but not the amount of sediment that some of the reviews have mentioned, A really thick head that had lots of surface tension when poured, but did not leave much lacing on my glass.

S- For me this was the best part of the beer, but a very atypical scent for a west coast IPA, chamomile and fresh cut grass were both noticeable, hints of sweet citrus, but only underneath the gassy exterior, and there was almost a lingering scent of papaya and banana, almost like a german hef, strange but intriguing.

T- Well it didn't taste bad, but for an IPA there just wasn't much hop flavor at all, the hop schedule for this beer must not be that aggressive, even though it was rated at ~60 IBUs, it tasted more like ~40, and as it warmed it tasted more like a Belgian Pale, with a stronger hay flavor that was bordering on skunky by the end... Makes you wonder when this was brewed and maybe thats why the hop flavor has degraded

M- Not enough carbonation for the style

O- I dont think this beer is totally unsavory, but it does need some work. Probably the best part of this beer was the bottle, which came with a flip top and a dollar deposit if you dont want to homebrew with it, a cool idea that I hope to see more small local breweries adopt.

Bring a spoon, we've got a gusher!

The brewer is small and local, and I have enjoyed this particular offering on tap. When I bought two bottles today, though, I found the head to be very aggressive, and the sediment content to be overwhelming. Bottled, a lot of the flavors I initially liked about the Invasive Species are not present; it is bitter and vinegary, without the same complexity.

The appearance is great, and so is the texture, both bottled and tapped. It is a complex, opaque amber brown color, reminiscent of apple cider. Very unfiltered.

As with other offerings, "IPA" is a loose approximation of a title. In reality, the Captured by Porches brews are their own animals. In the case of the Kolsch, I would call it an innovation -- for this beer, perhaps there is more experimentation needed to offer a strong entry to wear the title.

A: Pours deep amber with a huge, oily off white head slow faded into a greasy rocky film leaving patchy lace.
S: Bready malt dominates with some herbal hops and sweet caramel undertone.
T: Follows the nose. Bitter leafy hops, herbal, slighty piny, resinous and sticky hop oil. Finish is a mix of bitter cones and bready caramel malt, and aftertaste is full of hop resin and lingering bitter. Sweet and oily.
M: Medium full body, soft carb, sticky oily mouthfeel.
O: Strange, bitter but lacking complex flavor profile. Too much malt flavor but great bitterness.
