drank on site at WVBC on 7.3.08.

good brownish black color. tan head, but not much head in the pour. smell was a caramel malt with roasted malt smell as well.

taste was watered down. again, it tasted a bit soapy which means to me they aren't cleaning glasses very well.

By far this is my favorite usual offering at WVBC.

A-Dark brown, almost opaque with a medium khaki brown head,

S-Nice,but not strong, aroma of roasted barley, chocolate, and a bit of coffee.

T-Nice, chocolate tones followed up with a pleasant roastiness.

M-Medium body with a pleasant lingering sweetness.

D-Totally drinkable, nice and roasty with a full flavour and low ABV makes this one a winner.

Enjoyed at the brewpub in Morgantown, it's 4.8% abv. This sessionable stout is fine, it's a dark brown with some head. Coffee roast in the nose. In the taste, I get more chocolate than coffee. On the malty side with both a bias toward sweetness and toward roasted malt.

Sample at the brewpub. This brew pours a flat black color with a medium beige head that burns away steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Roasty aroma of coffee and milk chocolate with hops and malt in the background. Medium-bodied and smooth with a roasted coffee character, along with some chocolate and burnt malt. The finish is toasty with a mild coffee aftertaste that lingers a bit. Above average overall.

Pours a deep bownish black in color with a medium tan head.
Beer has a good nose, smells of dark malts, black, roasted barley...hints of coffee and chocolate. Reminds me of walking through a store that specializes in finer coffee and chocolate.
Taste is full and creamy. Slight burnt taste intermingling with the chocolately smoothness. Bitter mis of hops lends to a pretty good stout.

Wow! I know this report will be averaged with my previous, but I had to write again. WVBC has changed the Blackwater just a bit,, and it's much for the better. It's color is pitch and it has a great head with great lacing. Excellent aroma, deep and heady with a great smell of coffee. Same for the taste, a great stout with a wonderful coffee flavoring, with small hints of chocolate and caramel. It goes down great, I could have quite a few in one sitting. I think I'm going back tonight to fill one of my old WVBC growlers with it.

This one pours a very dark color, but lets a lot of light through around the edges. Has a nice tall head with good retention and leaves some lacing on the glass. The aroma is mostly roasted malts - very little chocolate or anything else. The flavor is much the same - mostly roasted malts. It lacks a bit in the mouthfeel, could be a lot thicker. This was a nice beer to drink, but I don't think it would stand up well against other stouts.

My personal favorite year round offering from the WVBC. It pours a dark almost opaque deep amber brown with a tawny brown head, this beer is smack full of roasted barley, chocolate, and crystal malts. Aroma is full of the dark roasts but also has hints of coffee, and hidden chocolate tones. In the flavor the chocolate tones come out more than in the aroma, but overall a awesome medium bodied well made stout. Highly drinkable, the low hooping rate allows the sweetness contrasted with the slight harshness of the dark roasts makes for a good time in my mouth.

Almost black with a creamy tan head. It has the sweet aroma of raosted malt with a touch of hops. Light flavor of coffee, with a strong roasted character. Good hop bitterness on the finish with just a touch of sweetness. Decent body and mouthfeel, and very drinkable. A fine offering from West Virginia Brewing.
