drank on 7.3.08 onsite at WVBC.
clear yellow and orange appearance. smell was non-existent with minor hop smell, that was about it.
taste was one of the better ones of the WVBC lineup. having said that, there still isn't anything much to it. slight sweet aftertaste and there is a delayed hop bite, which is probably the best thing about the beer.

Enjoyed on-tap at the Morgantown brewpub. Good C-hop aroma, its 5.8% abv. Good bitterness, some would and used to call this an IPA. Drinkable and satisfying although nothing out of the ordinary as a beer. Ok for the style though not a standout.Appropriate carbonation and mouthfeel is middling.

Sample at the brewpub. This beer pours a clear amber color with a minimal white head that evaporates pretty quickly. Thin top ring of lacing with spots underneath. Hops and citrus in the nose. Medium-bodied and moderately hoppy with just a bit of bready malt and caramel for balance. The finish is citrus and hops and leaves a lightly bitter aftertaste. A little unbalanced but decent.

Came to my table with a very nice head. The beer itself was a wonderful dark amber color bordering on copper. Ned's went down smooth, smoother than most IPAs I've had. It had a very nice deep hoppy taste, without leaving a horrible bitter aftertaste. Nicely balanced all around. I only wish it had more of an aroma, as there was very little scent. Other than that, it's a wonderful IPA.

Copper color with a nice white head, that did leave a decent lacing on the glass. Impressive presentation to say the least.
Aroma is actually quite mild in the hop department. Oh you can smell them up front alright, but they are just not as bold as you might expect. Some nice maltiness is present in the nose.
Taste is about the same. The hops and malt are balanced fairly well, but you might find yourself wishing for a bit more of the hops.
Decent body and carbonation was really right on.
I could make this a daily drinker if the Brewpub was more in my vicinity.

A - Copper colored ale with minimial lace and barely what you would call a head with swirling up the glass.
S - Nice mild hop aromas, piney and little else in the way of aroma
T - The hops outweigh the ale flavor, lightly malty mostly carbonation and hops playing tug of war with the light extract flavor.
M - Way too much Co2 for the malt that it attempts to support. Prickly thin, with lack of sufficient depth in malt body. Slight bitterness from hops is felt.
D - Less than your average pale in complexity- too bitter with not enough flavoring hops. Pale without malt sweetness - seriously deficient in fullness. The Hop aroma was decent making you expect some pine, but mostly just acid is tasted. I would probably avoid this ale.

This beer is a keeper!
It pours a nice clear medium copper with not much head although good carbonation.
The nose is exactly what is expected from an APA, hoppy, citrusy with minimal malt backing.
Flavor is all floral and citrus, the hops rule with this one.
Mouthfeel is good, what I would call average.
If ever in the great city of Morgantown, its a must try!

Uninspired American Pale Ale, heavy on hops, thin on taste. It's drinkable and a safe choice at thisBrewpub which is very hit and miss but you can buy countless superior beers.
It's straw/copper colored with a disappointing head and smells of hops, tastes of hops and is all about hops. It's thin bodied and somewhat flat. If you like hops (which I do) it's drinkable but boring. If you're not a hophead steer clear.

Poured from a growler (about 6 hours old) into a large wine glass: deep copper color, thick head with good retention. Sticky, sticky lacing. Put a candle behind it and it glows beautifully, too.
Highly hopped, and you can tell from yards away. Balsam/pine lead with citrusy afterfinish. No malt to speak of. I can sit and smell a glass of this all evening.
Taste: Agressive, highly hopped. Pine-y hops up front, milder citrus notes in the middle. The malt, hidden from the nose, appears as a sweet finish. Light barley aftertaste mixed with resurgent hop bitterness.
Covers the whole palate. Round in the mouth, with lingering bitterness that makes you want to eat bar food. Crispness on the back of the throat. Well balanced.
Drinkability is high, but the hop, hop, hoppiness can overwhelm after a couple. This is a fine beer to have one, get soemthing else, tehn return to later in the session.
This used to be a seasonal at the brewpub [in West Virginia, everyone calls it "The" brewpub, even other brewers] but popular demand made it a regular. Ned Strauss, the brewmaster at WV Brewing, has done wonders working under the state's 6% cap, and this is one of his finest.
Bottom line: If you like hops, you'll love this. Worth a stop if you're in Morgantown.

This one pours an amber color with a nice head that has good retention and leaves some lacing on the glass. The aroma has a caramel malt back and lots of American hop aromas - citrus and pine. The flavor reminds me a lot of a Sierra Nevada. Smooth caramel malt with quite a bit of American hops dominating the taste. This one is very drinkable and has a nice mouthfeel.

My thanks also to beergeek279 and cupbeerman for the personal delivery.
Pours copper/amber and clear. Nice off-white head that stuck around for awhile and left puffy spots of lace on the Kuhnhenn glass.
Aromas of pale malt and wheat toast with some fragrant herbal and resined hops.
Flavor of pale malt dominated as you would expect but was cut with some sweet caramel malt notes and some citrus and hint of pine on the finish. Hint of nuts appeared as beer warmed.
Mouthfeel was fairly vibrant and "big." Really filled the pallet with nice combo of malt, roast and bitterings.
Drinkability was high. Really smooth and would be a great session beer. Would go well with some spicy Mexican or Thai food.

Thanks go to beergeek279 and cupbeerman for bringing a growler of this to Michigan for Trbeer and I to enjoy in their company.
Slightly hazy deep caramel forming a small light beige head with good retention and lacing, Mild to moderate carbonation as most growlers are. Aroma is full of fresh green leafy hops (have been told it's Cascade, but this smells closer to a German Noble to me, however, this is also my 4th pint of the day). Mouthfeel is sharp and tangy with a rounded middle and medium body. Tastes of sharp, pungent hops, but is not overly hoppy and offset by the fair amount of pale and crystal malt. Husky, nutty, and toasty character gives the impression of crystal or CaraMunich/Vienna malt. Middling hop bitterness is piquant. Finish is toasty and semi-dry. Enjoyable and something I would gladly drink again.

This beer is not the biggest IPA I have ever tasted, but one thing is for sure it is very drinkable. This beer is very similar to the Appalachain Ale that they brew, but they cut the malt and double the hops in this one. Labeled a Pale Ale, but due to the amount of Cascade hops here I would venture to call it an IPA. The copper amber tone is amazing, along with the off white beige head that forms. The aroma is full hops in the forefront, but just the right amount of malt sweetness comes through in the aroma. I usually enjoy these when I visit the Brewpub, because it's usually on the bartender's choice for a dollar. Complements their steak sandwich very well, the beer is hopped well, but not over done. Very good brew that will have me enjoying it again in the future. Very drinkable, but for most of the crowd who attend the WVBC this beer is too bitter for them. That is why their Cheat Mountain Gold continues to be number one.
