Here at Colorado Boy in Ridgway and had to give this a go, given its lofty rating on here. Finding a cask tap, let alone having this out of one, made all of the difference as this was among the best of the style that I’ve ever had!
Crazy as it sounds, this poured like Guinness as the bubbles lovingly cascaded down from the foam. The liquid that formed was red, clear, and softly luminescent while trending more brown than red. Loads of webbed suds along the top quarter of my glass with a solid sheet of lacing remaining near the center of my glass. A quarter of an inch of foam stuck around at the top of the liquid as the cream completed the ale nicely. Lots of malt in the nose but not dry or full of bread, as it was understated. The taste was a bit toasty and had underlying bread but there wasn’t any overt booze, nuts, or dryness apparent.
Full-bodied and light in carbonation, there was a bit of moss and subtle hop tingle in the aftertaste but overall, this was so easygoing that I would’ve had another if so didn’t have to drive 200 more miles tonight. Worth finding this gem of a brew here in hop country!

Deliciously drinkable, with a mouthfeel to die for. I have a hard time veering away from the Colorado Boy IPA when I'm there, but this Irish Red is undoubtedly the best I've ever had. If there's clouds in the sky, or a cool dampness to the day, then Irish Red it is!
Look: is red (as you would expect), but remarkably clear, due to the vorlaufing system Tom Hennessy uses.
Smell: Rich, malty, but not burned or too toasty. Not tons of hop aroma, but something's there, and it does make your mouth water.
Taste: Sweet, bready, rich malty, yet not thick syrupy stuff. Superbly quaffable. Just the slightest bittering hop balance.
Feel: Creamy, not overly carbonated, but just perfect. Not too thick, which is often my qualm with porters and stouts. Leaves the palette clean and clear, and wanting more.
Overall, if you're in Montrose or Ridgeway, do yourself a favor and stop in. At least taste this one. It's at the top of my list.
