Has this beer changed or have I? Consider the following a re-review (July 26, 2004). I use to think this was decent beer. Not any more.
Honey-gold in hue, it was served with a mall frothy white head. It was a modest half finger in height. The head retention was poor as it faded completely away after a few moments. There was not even a hint of lacing. This beer looked dead. The nose is weak and vapid. I detect odd suggestions of "hard water" with an extract-like maltiness that I have only detected in really lousy commercial beers. It seems there is an underlying note of spice, not from hops like I use to think (there really can't be Saaz hops in here anymore) but something like coriander. Anyway the bouquet is hardly inviting. It is very boring. The palate is lifeless. I use to really like this beer. This is how I originally described the taste:
"Soft and light palate with fruitiness, marshmallow hints, faint grassy-spice, and a ghost whisper of pepper more bitter in the middle nicely hoppy."
Was I on drugs? It tasted nothing like that. The palate was flat with a hard water taste, hints of spice like coriander and it is not bitter or fruity. Summer Seduction is really quite flavorless with only some odd malty flavors coming through. It is so simplistic it is really pointless to drink. The carbonation is prickly but weak, medium-light mouthfeel. Apathetic. I didn't care for it much; I finished my pint at the Crescent Moon and moved on. I don't think I will go back to this beer again. This was a very disappointing offering from a brewery that I use to really respect but now I wonder if I can support such mediocre products in the future. Try something else.
