Per Sledge Jr.'s review on RateBeer: "This was a special run of Hopluia that contains twice the amount of hops as usually used for Hopluia. Sold at the brewery on 12/19/7 by the case of specially marked cans."

Clear, coppery-tawny gold in hue; off-white head, at the apex the foam was a healthy half finger tall. Good head retention, the foam didn't move much for a while. A soapy collar lasted the entire consumption. The subsequent lacing was fairly widespread. Overall, the appearance is quite solid.

Very nice nose! Juicy hoppiness throughout; piney and citrusy with a good deal of lemon zest and flowers. The nose is similar to Hopluia but, well, hoppier. I am digging the nose more than I thought I would. I wish Hopluia normally smelled like this. The malt arrives in the background in the form of caramel and biscuits. Damn nice! Chatty and quite inviting... I can't wait to take a sip.

Hey! Hopluia Double Hop actually has some bitterness as well as plenty of hop flavors. I'm not kidding myself; this is not a great beer by any stretch of the imagination. Tasty, well, sure... I guess. Flavors are good, pine, citrus, and flowers mix well with caramel malts. Simple, yes but it is still good. I wish Hopluia tasted like this. Okay, the more I drink it the more bored I'm becoming. This is just a so-so English IPA.

Medium/medium-light in body, low but natural carbonation; the mouthfeel is a bit light but workable.

This special release isn't very special. I'd like to see a true Double Hopluia... more hops, more malt, and more alcohol. This beer is nothing more than a fun little gimmick. Happy I tried it but I wanted more. Thanks for the can Todd.

My brother in law lives in Cortland and picked up this one-off special double-hopped version on Hopluia for me when Sam was selling it just before Christmas. Thanks, Brett! Poured crimson with a short layer of lacy head. Smells of fresh flowery hops, sweet malt, mild toffee. Hops are, as in Hopluia, remarkable aromatic and fresh. Taste is a hop attack, but not a brutally bitter one. Hops are just smooth and creamy and delicious. Malt backbone supports the hops nicely. Delicious. Medium bodied. Very smooth. Hugely drinkable...better than the regular Hopluia, mainly because the regular stuff doesn't live up to its wonderful hop odor when you're drinking it. Here, the hops are well maintained throughout the drinking experience.
