Although the beer board beside the bar lists this beer as having a starting gravity of 16.0 plato and an abv of just 5.2%, I find that very hard to believe. That would mean that it has a final gravity of around 6.0 plato - and I find it thinner than that; and there's obviously more alcohol at work here. Maybe it's just an error...
Its deep golden body appears as an orangeish-copper in the pint, and its creamy off-white head slowly settles to a thin collar while leaveing some transient, spotty lace throughout most of the glass. The nose reveals a rich malt with some light fruit (white grape juice), a splash of alcohol, and some floral and leafy hops. As expected for the style, the body is medium; and it's very fine and moderate carbonation gently tingles the tongue before gliding smoothly away down the gullet! The maltiness is quite straightforward, and it's very clean except for the light touch of fruit that actually lends it a note of character. The hops are more floral than the nose indicates, and they're surprisingly bright within the flavor - very nice! It's well-balanced and both the bitterness and alcohol are held in check but clearly present. It finishes dry with a short-lived note of rich malt, a flash of fruit and alcohol, and then a lingering chalky bitterness. Very nice!
