I'm not exactly sure if this beer should be listed here as it's somewhat of a contract brew for Scott Baver - former owner and brewer of the now defunct Pretzel City Brewing Company. This was one of his flagship beers, and he eventually had it contracted with Ortlieb's brewer Bill Moore while he was at Independence. I remember liking the original Pretzel City version better but...

Its reddish copper body reveals deep amber and gold highlights beneath a creamy, light tan head. The retention is good and it leaves some thick, splotchy lace at the outset of the glass. A yeasty fruitiness similar to berries and a bit of earthy sulphur combine with sweet, caramelish malt in the nose. The body is medium/full with a very fine carbonation that massages the tongue with a gentle effervescence and welcomes you to have another taste. Rich, caramelish malt is enlivened by its juicy fruitiness, and balanced by its sulphur constituent, leafy hop flavor, and bold bitterness - although with so much rich malt present it appears little more than just balanced by its bitterness and it finishes semi-dry with some sticky malt throughout the mouth. Still, it's an interesting and satisfying beer!
