When I hear black lager my ears tend to perk up for some reason. I am not even a big lager fan. This was virtually headless with a deep cola brown body. Smell was toasty and a little nutty. Seemed to be a little bit of biscuit malt. Taste was surprisingly enjoyable with a nice malty front and touch of roastedness. Not a huge impact on taste, but not bad given the choices I had. Very minimal hop in either aroma or taste as the malt was the headliner. The carbonation was a little sharp on the mouth but still very easy to drink. I was kind of expecting a schwzarbier when I ordered it, but it was decent. Overall though, pretty typical of Milwaukee-area brew pubs; thin and mostly uneventful!

The waiter said this was the same as their Munich Lager, but with a touch of roasted malts added. The beer poured a medium brown color, not black, wtih no head. The nose was slightly roasted and full of lagerness. Not too sure about this beer. The flavor was pretty muh the stock Munich Lager, with a small roasted/coffee character to it. Better than the Munich, but still not a great beer. There was way too muh carbonation on this beer and not enough thickness. Overall, this is not a beer I would get again. It was not bad, but surely not good.
