8 oz tap pour at Water Street Brewery into an American Tumbler.
A - Totally opaque black color with a thin tan head with good retention and little bits of lacing on the glass.
S - Really roasted chocolate malts. Nose of a milk chocolate Hershey bar with a mild brewed coffee aroma. Really solid smell but a bit muted when you think "Espresso Stout". Towards the end I started picking up a french vanilla flavoring smell.
T - Roasted chocolate malts. A hint at coffee but the flavor mainly consists of really roasted malts and a bit of that real milk chocolate flavor. Good but just a bit one-dimensional. Kind of dirty, cocoa hints too.
M - Smooth and a bit creamy going down with a bit high of a carbonation finish. Really dry finish from roasted malts and a dirty, chalky feel like cocoa.
D - Not bad at all! It feels more like an espresso stout than it tastes like one. It goes down nicely but needs minor touch-ups to be a really solid brew. Water Street seems to do much better with their dark beers.
