The Red Baron

 

30 local brews on tap plus 20 other out of state micros is a pretty good selection. Take that plus good lookin bartenders and waitresses, that makes a great combo. Super friendly. Great food. Only thing I'd ask for is a window or two. Kind of dark inside but great red baron decor.

 

 

 

 

 

Favorite place in the Flint, MI area to get a good beer. They have over 40 microbrews on tap and their chicken wings are great as well. Service is always good. It gets pretty crowded at times but there usually isn't a long wait to find a seat. Great place to check out.

A few of us went for the Dark Horse tap takeover on 5/25 and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of regular taps they had. Along with the regulars from Bells, Founders ...etc. they had Curmudgeon, Shorts Soft Parade and Aniversary Ale among others.

This is really a family place with great taps. If you are in the Flint area or just passing through, the Red Baron is well worth a side trip!

The Red Baron is within walking distance of where I live...I've been going there since I was about five years old (initially for dinner, of course).

Atmosphere: It's called the Red Baron. That being said, the decor matches perfectly. Lots and lots of red, and all kinds of WWI paraphernalia, most of it related to the single engine shooter planes popularized by folklore of the time. Michigan just recently went to a smoking ban in bars, but even before the ban it had great ventilation so it's not overly smoky. There are two entrances/exits, and the flow of traffic is usually fairly mellow. Even on a busy night, it's a very relaxed kind of place. Typically country music or classic rock is on the radio, except for weekends when Karaoke takes over for the 9 pm to 2 am shift. Tables, booths and bar seating, a dartboard and a pool table. Place could probably hold about 100 people safely.

Quality: Good news bears.

Service: I have always received exemplary service at the Baron. The wait staff is typically between 4 and 8 waitresses, and I have never had to wait more than a minute or two for a beer, even in very busy times. Bartenders are knowledgeable and entertaining, and meals are typically prepared very quickly. Great service all around.

Selection: There are approximately fifty taps in the Baron: about a dozen domestics and the remainder are premium/micros/imports. The domestics have stayed the same, but every few months or so about half the others rotate to something different. For a small, suburban bar, it's got a pretty decent selection.

Food: They offer standard bar fare (fried mushrooms and cauliflower, french fries, hot wings) and grill items (steaks and burgers, seafood, chicken breast). In addition, they have a Mexican menu as well as an extensive sandwich menu. Rounding it out, they also offer several types of salads (if you're not into all that heavy, delicious bar food). It's all prepared fresh and made to order, and they've got a great kitchen staff working there who will take care of you quite nicely. No matter what your taste, there is something for you at the Baron.

Value: If you're going out to get plastered, this is not the place for you (unless you don't mind the macros, which are almost always on some kind of sale). However, if you compare prices here to something like Applebee's or Red Robin, you'll find that you're paying a lot less for the same quality at the Baron. A 24-ounce glass of domestic beer is usually about $2, with premiums varying between $3 and $6 for the same size glass. The wide range of premiums/micros/imports is in and of itself a great value in my opinion.

There are cheaper places to drink/eat; there are more 'happening' places as well; however, when it comes down to "bang for your buck," everything is in its right place at the Baron.
