this is such a great idea, jazzing up their german pils with different peppers and releasing them as a mixed pack. i only missed the aleppo pepper one, a shame, but the rest of these were cool. this one is by far the hottest of the three i had, but also probably the best carbonated, the others were saggy, so i appreciate the life this has, really zesty and intense, a late onset heat that doesnt hit until after the swallow, deep in the throat and then welling back up to the palate, lots of burn but not quite painfully hot, i was happy to be sharing the can though, a pint would be a lot of this for me. the heat comes in waves after that, and each has its own flavor, the first is kind of tight and vegetal and green, the second richer, more oily, permeating, lastly a little pop of citrus and something savory, neat with the malt this has. the crispness of the base beer is only average for a pils, and its not as bright and refreshing as it could be, but the european lager yeast fits nicely with this pepper from a flavor standpoint, and i appreciate this not being some blonde or golden ale base, its more flavorful and dynamic than that. none of these beers were amazing, but all of them were fun, and highly educational. chili beer is not something i generally am in love with, but i really enjoyed the different peppers in this series. way cool.
