Gravity pour at Fountainhead. Served in a pint glass.
A - A small head settles to a thin collar and some wisps, as well as tiny specks of lace. Murky orange-yellow body. Looks like cask beer alright.
S - Plenty of black pepper, supported by a the sharp, twangy grains and toastiness of the base altbier. The nut and bread aromas integrate with the black pepper reasonably well.
T - Taste has a bit less overt black pepper, with more balance from the altbier flavors. Bready and toasty, with only light fruity sweetness at the back end.
M - Medium-low carbonation that is surprisingly active for a firkin. Roasty and moderately dry texture, with a clean finish. Medium-full body has more heft than you'd expect from a 5.8% brew.
D - The concept sounded really unappealing, so I'm glad TheAlum twisted my arm. This works better than one would anticipate, and it's surprisingly drinkable for a beer made with black pepper. Also, kudos to Metropolitan for making true cask beer and executing it correctly.
