Collaboration with Off Color Brewing
We used a heritage strain of purple rice in a pils to trick Doug and Tracy into making their first adjunct lager. Unfortunately, they were onto us from the start. They’re smarter than we are... which is good because we learned most of what we know about building a brewery from them.

Drank a couple too tree of these at the Off Color event at Black Rock.
A very drinkable Pils, though there was some sulfur/diacetyl present. Hazy gold with some speckled white foam crowning the edges. Was mostly foam the first pour, but the second was pretty hazed with a few trails of rising carbonation. Aroma was crisp with a little bit of dry pils malt and sulfur. Taste was buttery with some dry cracker and biscuit from the pils malt, and minimal bitterness from some dry noble hops. Overall it was enjoyable, look forward to future batches.

On-tap at Black Rock Pub. Served in a variety of glasses over the evening.
A - Lightly hazed pale orange body. White foam settles to a thick cap and a few fingers of lace.
S - The aroma is pretty crazy - I was sure there was peppercorns in here, but apparently that's just the forbidden rice. Buttered biscuit that's typical of pilsner malt, some mild lemony hops, and perhaps a hint of cocoa in the periphery. The rice gives this musky note I similarly get from peppercorns which is what caused my initial confusion.
T - The taste is more traditional pilsner, with the same biscuity malt, mild floral and lemony hops, and moderate bitterness in the finish. Perhaps a bit sweeter than your typical pils, but not as wild as the aroma suggests.
M - Dry, medium body, with zesty carbonation. Crisp and clean in the finish, and no obvious alcohol. Again - guessing this is in realm of 5%.
D - A bit sweeter than I like from this style, but solid and enjoyable. The aroma was quite unusual and had me returning to it periodically throughout the day. I had a few small glasses of this one and would drink it again.
