No date on this bottle. Appearance is dark orange hazy with a nic e initial head but disappeared fairly quickly. Aroma is funky and yeasty. Tasty is full bodied, moderate tartness trending towards lightly sour. An interesting balance of dry brettiness and a sweetness I suppose from the yeast and higher ABV. Decent flavor profile and a heavy mouthfeel. Solid European funky beer.

Dark orange, beautiful creamy head.
Good smell, malty, biscuity, hoppy notes, grassy and aromatic.
Again malt and biscuit in the taste, lightly spiced. Green hop, lighty fruitiness, apricot, citrus fruit.
Dry and drinkable, hidden alcohol. Cereals, biscuit, warm spicy notes, quice.
When it warms, just a hint of solvent in the nose.

Glowing bright sunflower with no head. 3.75
Banana with hints of herb and lemon plus earthy yeast. 4
Thread of saltines, mashed pear, hit of clove, a ton of tropical fruit and a grassy end. 4
Almost medium, chewy, round. 3.75

A biere de garde, not a saison? OK, that allows a bigger body and some fruit, but this is still a ton of sweet puree and not enough hops (which are talked up on the label) to cut it. Almost more like a maibock. Biscuit comes out as it warms - there’s an underlying pils malt cleanliness. But still not easy or quenching like it should be. 3.75

Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a slightly hazy, medium golden amber with a fine one finger off-white head with great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of grainy malt, saison style yeast, apple and pear juice and a hint of light stone fruit. Flavor of bready, semi-sweet malt with a light graininess, light stone fruit and pear, tangerine; develops a light grassy hop bitterness that finishes with moderate hops, residual light stone fruit, with some dryness and spice from a saison style yeast. Medium bodied with a nice creaminess and great carbonation. A pleasant surprise of a biere de garde / Belgian IPA hybrid with a some character from a dubbel in the start, which is fruitier and sweeter than the finish. Nice flavor progression from Belgian style dubbel to hoppy classic biere de garde grainiess and yeast. I really liked this since it had my favorite parts of each of the styles that seem to overlap here. Perhaps a bit sweet for the style, but fit my palate perfectly. I liked this a lot, well done off-beat ale.

11.2oz bottle. Poured out a clear, golden yellow color with a small, off-white head of bubbly foam. It left minimal lacing. It smelled of plum, spices, toffee and floral notes. Sweet toffee with plum, other stone fruits, caramel and subtle spices. Medium bodied beer.

Cloudy amber brew with a fine-grained foam in the Affligem chalice. Clouds of foam in the mouth. Wonderful flowery and fruity aroma.

So warm and malty with a Plenty of the Belgioan yeasty taste with the usual bitter finish. Maybe there is a touch of hops too. The classic Saison flavor but more bitter than the usual. Some langourous sweetness with pear nectar and pineapple.

Here's a French brew styled after the Belgians that is well worth trying. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Liticker's Liquor in San Diego.

Pours a cloudy, maize/orange color. 1/4 inch head of a white color. Good retention and good lacing. Smells of sweet malt, hint of hops, hint of pale malt, hint of alcohol, and strong sugar. Fits the style of a Biere de Garde. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of strong sugar, slight sweet malt, hint of hops, pale malt, and a hint of alcohol. Overall, good appearance, but the strong sugar aroma and taste is disappointing.
