a polish interpretation of winter beer. translates as: black oak.
this is a beer brewed in lager yeast with an addition of beets and endives added to the mash. proved to be one of the most interesting lager experiences in the perspective ranging between something like a baltic porter, euro dark lager, and a swartzbier. the look was a bit on the dark red brown side with but still clear and translucent. nose was like that of a good shwartzbier. nice broad malty chocolate that didn't have a syrupy lingering quality. the palate was like that of a baltic porter but quite lean. reminded me of the staropolkie baltic porter and the interesting fact about that is that its an 8% that i have reason to believe is actually bottom fermented. this was very easy to drink. and has the baltic sour quality was well a sweetness of earth that only a beet could carry. the endive was distinct in the bitterness as something smoky but green if that combination was possible before. the feel was very lean and after a lower abv beligan ale was completely indecernable. a beer that a lot of brewers can learn something from. turning out to be one of the most formally polish but solid brewery with the more examples i come across.
