September 26th, 2015 - Enjoyed in the raucous environs of San Diego's Tour de Fat, the hop stout looks just like a stout with a thin wedge of head in the plastic cup, and a huge malty nose that I can smell even with all the other smells, sights and sounds around. And there is indeed a touch of hops, with a little pine sap, some fresh dirt, and straw, all of it well mixed and very pleasant. The body is smooth and on the lighter, svelter side, with honey and browned butter, and a freshly roasted sweet potato. I don't know where the hops is or what it might be doing in the background, but as a stout this is quite tasty.

The malts take precedence over the hops in this one. Very chewy and chocolatey. Also a nice bitterness with some citrus and herbal notes. Ambitious and delicious

Tasted in a 10 oz snifter from draft at The Beer Market on December 17, 2015. Look is deep dark brown with a tan head and lingering lacing. Smell is chocolate, coffee, bread, citrus and earth notes. Taste is rich dark chocolate, roasted coffee, toasted bread with bitter citrus and earthy hop flavors. Feel is full in body with nice balance of sweetness and bitterness.
