8oz glass at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver Square - a warm, smokey afternoon calls for a fruity sour, methinks.
This beer appears a hazy, medium milky yellow colour, with a thin cap of wispy and weakly bubbly off-white head, which leaves some streaky and spidery lace around the glass as things slowly sink away.
It smells of juicilicious tropical fruit, domestic citrus rind, a grainy cereal wheatiness, white saltine crackers, and a touch of sour lactose. The taste is tart passion fruit and generic citrus flesh, soured milk, subtle crackery and grainy wheat malt, saltwater, and some tame earthy, weedy, and leafy verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly low-key in its workaday frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and generally smooth, with a minor airy creaminess lurking about, looking to bloom. It finishes off-dry, but not by much, as the fruitiness fades, leaving the lingering sour essences with the keys to the asylum.
Overall, this comes across as a pleasantly rendered gateway sour ale, with guest fruit and hop varietal not totally obfuscating the base Berliner Weisse. Refreshing, and almost worth the dear price tag in our bailiwack, at least.

A: hazy; medium yellow in color; 1 finger white head that receded to a thick collar; nice lacing;
S: tart passion fruit and citrus;
T: passion fruit comes out nicely by the middle; some citrus zest gets added in after the middle and lasts through the finish;
M: light to medium bodied; highly carbonated - effervescent; moderately dry finish;
O: nicely tart, but still very easy drinking;

16 ounce pour - $6.50 at Taco Mac in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Appearance: Served up a fairly hazy, milky, pale yellow-hued body. Slim, whitish head.
Smell: Oops, seems to be a middling, mild nose. Muted wheat, stifled sourness and low passion fruit.
Taste: Thinning, fleeting maltiness with a subtle, illusive sourness and soft touch of wheat. Light, lightly tangy passion fruit addition. Floral hops, very lightly bitter.
Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-light carbonation.
Overall: Subtly sour, not overly flavorful, falling short all across the board. It's not bad, it's just completely forgettable and boring. I say let's shoo this one away.
