Starting out tonight with some Voodoo Ranger 8 Hop Pale Ale, from New Belgium Brewing. Chosen because I liked the label. Pretty standard IPA, but doesn't have the major hoppiness of the last few beers I've sampled. The smell is fairly strong alcohol, tastes pretty grassy, but I mean that in a good way. There's a sourness too it, but it's missing the citrus flavors. There's a whisper of tropical fruit in the backtaste but that's all. Probably better on a hot summer day, and some more of the flavor comes out as it loses the cold. Nice, but not special.

BBD 3/18/18. Pours a clear light amber, slightly darker than golden. Quite outstanding head volume, very good retention and world class lacing.

Rather weak nose that is only slightly better than good. Some pine, zest and fruit are present.

Light medium body that is quite smooth and implies a bit of oily slickness. The carbonation / body balance is world class. The middle provides a burst of prickly effervescence. The finish is finely bubbled and rollicking producing a prickle that tingles the tongue.

The flavor profile is very good and tasty. Intensity is a little weak while complexity is lacking. The flavor arrives in blended fashion with little separation. Balance is world class. Bitterness is mild and typical of an APA. The middle provides a little sweetness, so you can detect some sweet fruit. Bitterness is mostly herbal but does have a touch of bitter zest. The finish fades with a note of sweet zest.

I got this off the single shelf at Kroger in Dayton near Metro sports south. It poured a clear golden with white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent had earthy hop presence. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with floral hop base. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a solid beer.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Hazy light golden pour. 2 fingers of foamy white head with great lacing.

S: Citrus and light grains. Mild pine.

T/F: Biscuity malts... gives way to a mild citrus hop profile. Grapefruit and tangerine rind. Mild pine... slightly herbal. Mild spice. Light bodied and well carbonated. The finish is crackers and citrus.

O: An easy-drinking APA. Light... crushable... good flavor. I'm not a huge New Belgium fan but this one really delivered. On point for the style.

light thin apa. Surprised as it has 8 hops. Its good just not that great. I've had SMASH APA that are better
color - golden good head
Smell - some type of hops - grassy
Taste - thin - woody citrus hops - needs a few more IBU's feels like 20 IBU which seems low for a 5.5%
feel - not sure not much there
overall - its good it just not great

Clear and amber in color. Quickly dissolving, nicely-clinging white, foamy head. Lacing was great throughout the pint. I had to dig for it, but I found ample tropical fruit characteristics on the nose. Taste surprised, especially after the lack-luster performance on the nose. Good flavors of lemon, grapefruit, pineapple and orange-peel, with a nice hint of pine finish. Good balance, a blend of tropical fruit and citrus, with not much going on in the pine/earth department. Feels smooth with a medium body and an average finish.

Pours a golden color, slight amount of haze to it, thin 1/4" white head on the top. Aroma popped different, seemed to be quite the medley of hops going on, they went with a little bit of everything here, nothing super dominant, a little bit of tropical fruit papaya and passion fruit, some grapefruit and mild pine in the nose.

Taste, easy enough, malt stays out of the way, but it also isn't super dry. Hops provide a nice bitter pop in the 50ibu range. Has more of an oily underbelly than a dry finish. They're clearly re-tooling the old school Ranger beer with more proprietary hops. Ultimately this amount of different hops might be neat for the aroma, but it led to a muddled taste like an undecisiveness just led to a dumping of a bunch of different stuff here. Still good but far from great.

Its ok, but not gonna be a repeat purchase.

New Belgium Voodoo Ranger has a thin-to-medium, off-white head, a somewhat hazy, yellow-gold appearance, and low level glass lacing. The aroma is of melon-like hop resin, with white bread, and the flavor is similar and subdued. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy, and New Belgium Voodoo Ranger finishes mostly dry.
