On-draught @ Falling Rock Taphouse.
AROMA: Leather, acetic acid, pediococcus bacteria, lactobacillus bacteria. Faint dark fruit. Caramel.
TASTE & TEXTURE: Moderate (~6-7/10) sourness from lactobacillus and (I think) pediococcus bacteria. Leathery mouthfeel. Well-carbonated.
Smacky and somewhat tart. Smooth, wet, unrefreshing.
Malt backbone drifts darker than one might expect in a typical American sour ale.
Acidic. Approachable. Balanced. Nice intensity, though more depth of flavour is needed for it to truly compete with world class expressions of the style.
OVERALL: New Belgium again delivers in the sour ale category with this impressive brew. Drinkable enjoyable fare with enough sourness and acidity to please even the most discerning fans of the style.
