i cannot remember the last time i has a beer from these guys that was not one of the voodoo series, those just keep on going and have really rendered so much of the rest of their portfolio an afterthought, a real shame, but this is solid, kind of brings me back, is this what blue paddle used to be? kind of looks like it to me, same abv i think too, been so long its hard to say. anyway this is clear, clean, simple without being bland, and well made overall. i like that i can taste so much of the lager yeast, but its less european on the grain side at the same time, its balanced, a touch sweet in the center, and hoppy enough on the finish without really being flavored all that much by the hops. i think its got a nice mineral profile, is well refined, and is a pretty textbook example of the style. lighter bodied but not thin, nicely carbonated, fresh and crisp, with a bready element to the yeast, a little late bite to the hops, and an earthy pale malt center. this beer loves spicy food, worked great with my mexican fusion lunch, and it has me excited for warmer weather around the corner. a bluebird day kind of beer, something optimistic and positive about it, good energy in this clean and drinkable lager...
