Let's break out the Aquanet and parachute pants, New Belgium is taking us back to a time of excess, flash and glam... or at least they're doing it for the tastebuds and in the form of a hazier, fruitier and sweeter IPA.
The 1985 version of VooDoo Ranger gets going with a golden orange appearance, deeply hazy and visually dense. As a frothy blanket of froth rises so do a collection of tropical, hoppy, herbal and spicy aromas. Sweet with shortcake, cereal and honey, the early palate is both bready and sweet. The hops bright a more citrus splash of red grapefruit, orange and a hint of lime before more tropical flavors lead with the addition of mango. Nuances of pineapple, guava, apricot and peach decorate the peripheries of favor before a tepid bitterness closes out the session with a grainy-sweet balance.
Medium bodied, sweetly focused and definitely fruity, this beer is definitely dressed up in all the tropic glam.

Look is not too great: head and lacing are weak and LOTS of particulates. Smell is a very good mix of champagne mango, peach and light pineapple. Taste follows the smell with the addition of a modest malt backbone. Very drankable and nice for the price.

Good beer, had back when I wasn't much into flavored beers and might give it a better rating now if I tried again.

12oz can. Best by date stamped on bottom is '24 NOV 2024'.
Cloudy, straw colored body. Two fingers of white head retreats, after a couple of minutes, to a fluffy cap and high ring, and leaves behind lacing webs.
Aroma is fruity with a mango lead. Also in the nose is orange and lemon. Has a whiff of pine, but smells mostly fruity sweet.
Taste is fruit candy with a bit of artificiality. Sweet mango, lemon, and orange. Back end has a bit of pine bitterness. Allows some malt to emerge in the aftertaste.
More than medium mouthfeel. Slick, with a bit of syrup. A little bit of tongue numbness after repeated sweet sips. Very good carbonation.
As advertised with the mango ingredient but simple and sweet.
