Notes: In a never-ending quest to create new beers and defy category, New Belgium Brewing and Brouweri Boon of Belgium have partnered together again to create Transatlantique Kriek - a spontaneously fermented lambic ale made with Polish cherries.

This authentic kriek beer began life in the oaken vessels at Frank Boon's brewery in the Lembeek region of Belgium. After more than two years aging, Boon's offering shipped across the Atlantic and found its way to the intuitive palate of New Belgium's Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert. After much sampling and internal consultation, Peter and his brew staff created a full-bodied golden lager to round out the light-bodied kriek.

The cherry nose gives way to a pleasingly sour flash across the palate that rolls gently into a slightly sweet finish. Crisp, effervescent carbonation keeps the mouthfeel bright and delightfully tingly.

From old, undated notes; poured from the bottle.

Beautiful deep red; slightly see-through.

Red-ish off-white head; a curtain of lace.

Sour cherry smell.

Medium thin mouthfeel.

Cherry-forward taste, not overly sour.

Real quaffable, but with a distinct flavor. Winning.

From the bottle, it pours a lovely ruby color with a small head. Initial scent of cherry flows out, taste is slightly sour with cherry undertones. A little thin for a kriek.

I've been on a big sour beer kick lately and this one doesn't really stand out to me. Grading it harshly mostly because of the price point. It tastes like your average sour beer, hard to taste any resemblance of cherry. Not a bad beer but if your looking for a sour save your money and get a 6 pack of Anderson valley gose. I was very excited to try this beer but came away very dissatisfied

Looks more like a flanders than a kriek, has too much brown in it, almost a half inch of head, quickly vanishes after the pour. Aroma was more like a fruit beer than a wild ale or kriek, the tangy cherry that was desired was just a medicinal cherry, couldn't discern sourness.

The cherry and tartness did pick up in the taste, but ultimately this beer was lacking notes of wood barrel, tartness and sourness as a whole. At a $16 price point, this just won't be a repeat purchase, I've had it a few times but I just can't see seeking it out again based on how its been over the different vintages.

I was really excited for this bomber, as I'd thoroughly enjoyed some of the other lips of Faith. This one smelled odd though, and was kind of medicinal and grainy.

Pours a crystal clear red with light pink foamy head that falls quickly to a ring around the glass. Aroma of cherries, malt, a very slight hint of funk and that's about it. Flavor to me is mostly lager, with sweet cherry cough syrup, almost non existent tartness and funk. Very slight balsalmic. Barely noticeable at all. Really wish this wasn't cut with so much lager, or was given more of a chance to develop before bottling. Does not taste like a Kriek at all to me. The feel is also not as dry than you would expect for a Kriek. This may be the biggest disappointment I've had from New Belgium ever. No where near the caliber of La Folie or Le Terrior. Let this sit in foeders/barrels for MUCH longer PLEASE before bottling! Or at least do not filter/centrifuge so that it can develop in the bottle. Bummer.

Pours a deep maroon with slight lacing. Smells of cherries. Has the typical Boon funk but other than that the cherries almost like cough syrup. Overall you would do better to get a Boon beer

Pours a clear dark pink with a foamy pink head. Sweet cherries and light tartness in the nose. The taste is off dry and nearly malty with a strong cherry, raspberry, cinamon and a whisp of funk. Sourness and is restrained but balances out the somewhat overbearing cherry flavor. Mouthfeel is low in carbonation for the style, pretty moderate amount of bubbles.

This is an OK Kriek but lacks dryness and funk complexity.

L: Pours pinkish cherry red with a thin pink tinted white foam collar.
S: Lemony, cherry aromas with some light malt.
T: Lemony tartness and cherry tartness balanced by lightly sweetened malts that grow to the finish.
F: Medium light body, fine soft carbonation.
O: This is a kriek blended with a golden lager which tones down some of the kriek tartness and adds a little sweetness for a fairly unique beer.

App: Light shade of deep red, semi-foamy head with short retention, good lacing.

Smell: Sour yeast, Sour Cherries. No alcohol detected whatsoever.

Taste: Wonderful. Fresh cherry and a bit of tartness. Perfectly balanced. The tart dies down the more you drink and let the brew air out.

Mouthfeel: subtle bubbliness, smooth with minimum to no hoppiness at all.

Overall: Excellent fusion of a Lambic and a Golden Ale. Great brew all the way around and will be getting again.

Bottle marked as "2015" and ABV is 7%, 22 oz bottle. Looks a bit like a light cranberry juice. Soda pop head, fades quickly. Aroma is mostly of sour beer like yeasty smell, not very fruity. Taste is, to borrow from the wine world, "tight and tart", not generous with juicy flavors, very dry, nice and tart. Refreshing and somewhat simple, slightly fruity, but I couldn't tell that the fruit was from cherries. In fact wine fans and non-beer drinkers might like this, it reminded me of a Brachetto like Banfi, kind of a valentines day wine, probably would go well with chocolate. I corked it and drank rest of the bottle the next day...this time the cherry and more sweetness, even maple syrup, came through, seemed like a bigger overall beer the second day. Fruit beers are tough to pull off in my opinion, but they did a good job with this.

Pours a ruby red body, one finger pink head, good retention, nice lacing. Smells faintly of cherry, a bit of oak, graininess. Not funky or particularly tart. Flavour is very boring; the initial sip doesn't yield very much flavour, then it turns a bit of sweet cherries with a mild tart flavour, a little bit of vinegar, not much funk. It's very unimpressive as a whole, but nothing I would call off. Mouthfeel is thin, not particularly substantial, decent carbonation, bland finish. Overall, a major disappointment from the brewery that makes La Folie and Le Terroir; this is thin, lacks any substantial cherry flavour, funk or tartness.

I didn't really pick up much in the aroma department on this one
I thought it tasted pretty bland - not very puckery was hoping for a little more sour
cherry red in color with pink head
overall I wasn't too impressed, it was bland. nothing to get too excited about

Not a huge fan of fruity beers but not bad for a Lambic. Started sour and finished sweet and not too bubbly on the mouth-feel. A drinkable Kriek but most likely a one time deal.

This is for the 2015 version, while the look was pleasing and different, the smell was nice. The taste was weird; trying to have the sour taste of La Follie (spelling might be off), it also attempted to have the taste of wine, which kind of threw me. The feel was thin and hard on the tongue. Overall, I gave it a 3.75. I would not buy it again though.

Pours a clear cherry color with a tight, pinkish head that leaves little to no lacing.

Smells of sour cherries.

Tastes of tart cherries. Cherries lead off and carry throughout. Lightly tart and sweet. Touch of funk on the backend.

Mouthfeel is medium-light with a crisp amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is mediocre. An uninteresting one note lambic that is not worth trying.

Disappointing taste. Medicinal and not in that good lambic, aged way. Faint nose. The finish is empty. This is a soulless encapsulation of capitalism and other pretentious, completely unrelated beer things.

2015 version with Oud Beersel. Tastes like New Belgium got all of the leftover Oud Beersel lambic barrels that were unblendable, racked them onto some old sweaty gym socks for a few months, pasteurized, then spiked with Robitussin cough syrup at bottling.

*2015 vintage with Oue Beersel, 22 ounce bottle into a wine glass.

I'll just keep this one quick. First off, this pours gorgeous! Nice deep red body with a nice pink head. Looks closely like a Kriek Lambic. Next the aroma is different...not in a good way. This smells like grains with faint cherry and dog hair. Yeah, not really melding together.

The flavor is going in that direction also, yet not really reaching out to the drinker. This first hits the palate with grains, almost as if it were a malt liquor with lacto sourness. Notes of cherry and wood with a spicy and wet finish. The feel on this is watery and tight prickly carbonation.

Overall: This brew isn't screaming anything to me! It's not adventurous not taking you to a new level of lambic goodness. It's like someone put watered down sour cherry flavored syrup into a bottle of Steel Reserve. Hey, atleast Steel is a hell of a lot cheaper than this swill and doesn't proclaim to be "craft" beer. Mediocre at best. I cannot recommend this brew.

Tart cherry in aroma and flavor, though the consensus is it could be more tart. Oak is relatively non-existent. Definitely not the most complex profile.

22 oz. Bomber

Poured into a Westy chalice a very nice clean/clear light ruby red color, very nice carbonation, with a pretty nice white fizzy head, leaves some nice small islands and sticky lacing. The nose is tart, kinda yeasty. The taste is pretty nice, tart, some cherry notes. Medium body, at 8% ABV it is hidden very very very well, with a slight dry finish. Overall a tasty brew. It's been awhile since I've had a lambic/kriek brew, just might buy it again, even if it's for the cool looking color.

I enjoyed this chilled from the bomber in a goblet, review from notes.

The color is beautiful cherry red with slight hazed loooke with 2 fingers of cotton candy head with very fine bead and wavy lace stickage. The smell is very fragrant with excellent tart cherry odor and mild sweet scent with slight yeast ester and mild sour aroma but lacks the usual medicinal or cough syrup cherry-type smell. The feel is tangy with light sweetness and moderate carbonation with mild alcohol and slight acidity with malt texture present in the middle and mostly dry in the finish.

The taste is very nice with fruit in the intial taste with semi-tart cherry quality with a light malt flavor which is slightly sweet with a mild sour flavor of yeast in the finish which is pleasantly dry ...the cherry has a fresh flavor without any harsh acidity and flavor is slightly sweet but not cloying and malt body is mostly dry which balances the fruit with a slight bready flavor. Overall this is a very decent fruit beer not as intense as expected considering the collaborator yet it is very drinkable and would definitely enjoy this again.

A- Pours a deep burgundy, essentially like wine. The head is surprisingly frothy and heavy and it's a pinkish cream color. There are trickles of carbonation. 4

S- Pulpy cherry, cherry skin and faint vanilla or otherwise creaminess. 4

T- Cherry soda-like, as the flavor isn't entirely full-bodied or rich. There is some pleasant tart cherry that drifts in and out. 3.5

M- This brew does an interesting job of feel soda or spritzer-like and then creamy like some red wines. The finish is very dry and feels a bit like chewing on cherry skin. 3.75

This is a fun beer to drink. It's got a lot to make you ponder. But its flavors don't quite do the trick. 3.75
