winey, woody, limoncello inspired, super zesty, vibrant, unique, and modern, well refined, not too tart, plenty funky, and with good complexity to it, i was really stoked on this, and especially to find it on tap in idaho, uncommon i have to imagine. short head from the tap, strong nose, i think they use the buddhas hand citrus zest for this, maybe lemon or meyer lemon too, its really zesty, slightly asian, maybe pomelo or yuzu, neat with the oaken weight to this, off dry, unique as they come. i get some familiar new belgium sourness, i would not be surprised if this was their foedre golden sour base, but there seems to be a little more body to it, could there be a sugar addition in the belgian tradition here? almost seems blended with a tripel or something, call me crazy, mango and honey richness to it. the zest is awesome, all essential oily and popping, fresh against woody sturdy old base beer, gives real life to this, faint sweet orange to it too, along with the sharper lemony notes, very compatible with the bacterial sourness this is driven by, but also cool with the rustic funkiness, this has layers in the ferment as well as layers to the zest, delicious. its almost refreshing, but its a little too complex for that in its purest form, instead its intriguing at the same time it goes down easy, and i really like the freshness of the zest. great proportions on this, not too acidic to drink, not perfume either for how pungent it is. been awhile since i had one from these guys on this level, cool that they still got it even though so many others arent what they used to be at new belgium...
