Pint pour at UBH....surprised to see this on tap, it must have been hiding in back room for a couple of weeks.
BH Octobru has been a favorite of mine the last few years. This is a nice beer! There are a few different schools of fest out there now...on one side is the malt guys....Left Hand, Harpoon, Paulainer; the other side is Sam, Ayinger, Victory....a bit brighter and lighter. This falls slightly to the maltier side. Very creamy and rich.
Is 7.2% Imperial? There's the rub....one man's Imperial is this guys session....

I picked this one up on my way home from work yesterday. Figured I would get a local Octoberfest style since I like the style so much. Poured it into a pub glass and thought it looked about right, maybe a little darker than I would like, but not out of the norm. I took a sniff. I had just drank an Ayinger (one of my favorites, so the aroma was still fresh in my mind). The flavor and aroma were way off. Normally I get American Octoberfests and they just overdo the sweetness. This wasn't even sweet. Maybe metallic? Swampy? No toasted bread notes. Not even the caramel that I derive from, say, a Sam Adams. If you are accustomed to authentic German Marzen style Octoberfests I don't think that this beer is the right one for you.
