Lasting, but very small, head. Streaky 3D lace on the glass. The color is straw with white hue from the cloudiness.
Pale malt aroma with a bit of grainy sweetness. I didn't catch any hop in the smell.
The taste, while still malt-centric, has a notable hop bite. There's also plenty of yeast to the taste as well. This combination seems to take the beer out of the Kölsch profile. Perhaps, this could be considered an IPL, although the yeast makes the taste closer to a homebrew.

An interesting, almost strange beer. That may be because of the rarity of the style--a hoppy kolsch--but I think there are also ways in which, possibly because of that rarity, the brewers haven't worked out all the kinks.
It is good, don't get me wrong. It has the refreshing nature that I expect of a kolsch with the right, slightly fizzy mouthfeel, and it is hoppy, as advertised, with the bitterness building over the course of the beer. At the same time, it tastes almost thin at times, especially at the very beginning, when refilling my glass (from a 22 oz. bomber), and at the end. This suggests that the hop profile really needs to build, but does that mean the malt can't carry it on its own--there are plenty of good kolsches that don't have a lot of hops--or that once you start getting the hoppy flavor anything without it feels a little weak? In either case, future iterations will need to tweak to address these sorts of issues.
I will probably drink again, if just to figure out my feeling on it.
