Nice change from Guiness, as little black patent malt used, if any. Chocolate malt, seems most prominent. Refreshing hops make this an easy, awesome drink.

Crowler from Tully's
Inky black with a full khaki head that persists. Roasty earthy chocolate with a hint of dried fruit and maybe some creamed coffee. Pretty nice stout!

From the crowler. Sampled on March 12, 2017. This is no longer retired. It has been reissued as Sunday River Jamaican Stout and it is 6.7% ABV.
It pours a gorgeous looking dark brown to near black with a modest tan head that fades and laces. Opaque. The look is right on.
The aroma has some dark fruit characters, coffee notes, a toasted malt note, and an earthy hop backdrop.
I did not care much for the body although it was light to medium. But there was this acidity that bothered me.
The flavor began with dark malts that tended to be more bitter than sweet and that same coffee character was hanging around in the background. Bitter bite to finish.

Off the tap in Bethel this stout was a dark, cola-looking liquid with a mahogany meniscus. The head was tan and thin, leaving only scattered lacing. The aroma was subtle and sweet, chocolate and caramel malt. The flavors were similar and very sweet for a stout in the Jamaican style. It started with caramel and chocolate in a blend like a tootsie roll but there were no darker notes to it and it only got lightly bitter in a coffee way towards the finish. As it warmed up the sweetness became cloying and it really messed up the experience for me. The mouthfeel was smooth and silky but also oily and tongue coating. The body was medium and the carbonation low. A generally weird offering for a stout, even a foreign/export one.

Poured a deep black hue with a one finger foamy tan head. There was good retention and sticky lacing.
The smell was strong with toasted malt and coffee aromas. Sweet caramel and alcohol elements were detected as well.
The taste was a balanced bitter coffee and sweet caramel flavor. Mild bitter cherry and hop flavors detected. Mild alcohol flavor.
The mouthfeel was full and a bit slick. Mild alcohol burn.
Overall a good example of a rarely reproduced style. Would make a good session.
