I was able to try the Dolomite Stout last evening and wasnt overly impressed. Typically I like my oatmeal stouts to have great body...this fell a little shy. The appearance was good....dark with ecru head that laced. The smell included some roast, but nothing complex. The taste was borderline watery...again I like big bodied stouts. Those that like a lighter stout would really enjoy this. There was some note of roast but not much else. The mouthfeel was ok...again see complaints above....needed more. Overall....ok.

It's a pitch black brew, from which no light escapes. Big, rocky, mocha colored head of about 3 fingers on the pour. Slow to drop, nice lacing.
Aromas of deep roasted grains, some cocoa, but the dominate aroma is roasted barley. No hop aroma.
Flavor is deep roasted, but not burnt. Some sweet malt underneath, and no noticable hops. Finish is medium with that deep roast character carrying you to the fade.
Mouthfeel is medium and creamy. Good level of carbonation.
Overall, this is a good example of an oatmeal stout. Very nice session beer.

Served in a shaker pint glass at the brewpub.
This place, among others, has convinced me that oatmeal stouts were meant to be paired with nitro. This one pours a nearly opaque russet-black topped by a finger of sandstone foam. The nose comprises roasted malts, cocoa, toasted oats, and a light hint of hickory-smoked ham. Very nice. The taste holds notes of roasted malts, smooth milk chocolate, coffee, and light char. The body is a straight medium, with a light nitrogenation and a subsequently ridiculously smooth feel. Overall, a very good oatmeal stout, one that is a touch more complex than others.

Pours a black color. 3/4 inch head of a pale tan color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of roasted malt, sweet malt, slight oatmeal, and a hint of coffee. Fits the style of an oatmeal stout. Mouth feel is smooth and creamy with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, oatmeal, hint of hops, and slight roasted malt. Overall, good appearance, and decent body and aroma.
