On tap at the brewery, served in a stemmed tulip
The beer pours a clear dark copper color with about one fingers off white foamy head that recedes slowly leaving behind very little lacing
The nose is bready and sweet, with notes of caramel and vanilla, and hints of coffee and cocoa. The barrel character is muted, and doesn't really seem to add to the overall presence of the beer.
Like the nose, the taste is bready, with notes of caramel, coffee, dark bread, and hints of chocolate and vanilla. Also like the nose, the barrel character is light and doesn't really seem to add much to the overall beer. Light boded and somewhat thin. nicely carbonated.
The base beer is a really good example of the style, but the barrel aging doesn't really seem to do much for the beer. It actually seems to drag the beer down a bit, and make it thinner in mouthfeel. I think I'll skip this one and stick with the base Dunkel next time I'm at the brewery

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
