Brewer says this is made with Midnight Wheat (tm), a black wheat malt but otherwise similar to a Schwartzbier, though it's an ale rather than a lager.
Very dark brown in color in the 0.4 litre nonic. Modest foam, but plenty of spritz on the tongue. The blackness pervades the flavor as well. Grainy taste, a wlhiff of scorched oatmeal, and some mellow nutty roasted flavors, plus just enough charred wheat. A warm malty sweetness provides some balance.
Deinitely a more rich and mellow "light" dark beer. A hint of pecans crops up with every sip. It's like a brown ale with a seriously darker side. However, it goes down easily. A better class of Schwartzbier and interesting in the use of really dark wheat. On tap at Tiger! Tiger!
