Linwood Wine - Linwood Plaza

 

New to the area and checked out based on other reviews. Pretty much echoing what others are saying. Very nice selection. Plenty of international beer too (Czech, Belgian, some Asian beers too). You have to do some hunting as much of the selection is stacked case-on-case on the floor, but I'm betting near all will find something they would like. Plenty of cold beers too. Prices were good too. I bought a 15 pk of All Day IPA for $14 ($.93/can!!).

They do have a pick-a-six selection for $8.99 but not too many options there. And the ones available were slightly old but still probably fine. I would really like to see this place offer beers by the bottle/can. But that's nit-picking.

In all- really good beer store w/ something for everyone at prices that seem good.

Small but upscale... cramped but laid out well.
When the beer guy is there he is helpful and knows his stock very well. I only had a glancing interaction with him (he suggested a few DIPAs based on what I had in my hand - other times he was not there so I was left to my own awesome devices).
This seems like a more wine forward place but there are some nice displays in the back of the joint (a section just for bombers).
Prices are the jersey average but they have some nice stuff mostly in the bomber selection.
Clean and upscale, check out is always quick.
Watch the parking... people drive like animals around here (and coming off the palisades!)

The place is cheaper than other places in Bergen county. They have some good stuff but usually the new ones are not refrigerated. Some hoppy beers like beers from Sixpoint are not refrigerated. The beer guy is really helpful, but he is not always around.

 

This is my new favorite small shop. I just moved around the corner from the place and found it to be a gem. I walked into a nice selection of quality spirits and made my way to the back where the large selection of cold and not cold brews were stationed.They have a lot of wine as well. The owner Jake is quite friendly and knows what he is selling as far as beer and didn't disappoint me when he made his suggestions. I found some Parabola and some nice retired Blasphemy from Wayerbacher at $16 for the Firestone and $8 for the Blasphemy. The prices compete if not out beat Total Wine which is corporate. I love ma and pa shops and especially when the prices are right. Overall this is a place worth stopping in if your on your way to the city via G.W.B considering it's right near the entrance on the Jersey side. 10/10

Nice place! It's very clean and well laid out, had issues of ale street news by the front door. Extensive wine and spirits selection, but of course, that's not what I came for. Friendly staff asked twice in about 20 minutes of shopping if I needed help finding anything (I didn't). They have a rack of singles to make your own sixer, as well as a lot of bombers and various singles and sixes. Got myself a Schlafly 2008 bourbon barrel aged imperial for 15 bucks...had a nice selection of the regional and local stuff, plus some things like Allagash, Rogue's GYO, and a variety of collaboration beers as well. Hit this one up if you're in the area, it's pretty much smack on top of the GW bridge on the jersey side.

Deja vu (yes again) upon entering this place. Pretty sure this place used to be called something else and I reviewed it as such, several years ago..oh well..just a few minutes from the entry to the GWB on the "Jersey" side. Wine and booze yes but beer seems to be getting more and more respect here. Upscale type of store, but the beer prices seemed pretty reasonable. The good stuff is to the rear and left as you enter and in the obligatory store wide coolers along the rear. Expect to find a strong showing from the domestics, highlights (IE stuff I don't typically see in NY state) for this cross the river boy, were selections from New Holland, Climax bombers, Cricket Hill, Terrapin, and Flying Fish. The also seemed to stock a bunch of larger bottles of mainstream Belgians. Worth a visit to pick up a few things offered in Jersey, but maybe not your home state if you find yourself in the area.

Checked out the other reviews for this place...grade inflation...decent place but all 5's?? c'mon now...If this place truly is a "World Class" beer destination in your eyes, you need to get out some more and see the country..you will be amazed with what you see...

Man I love this place and it keeps on getting better and better. They carry a wide selection of beers that are not usually available to us North Jersey types and on top of that aren't afraid to get in pretty deep with the seasonal displays as well. The guys are really knowledgable about what they carry- you can just tell that they try the beers before they bring them into the store, and recommendations are usually solid. And when you ask about something, release dates or whatever, you don't get the 'blank stare' but some solid information instead.

There are also some bargains to be had- check the case prices. There are times when they are really low in order to move a large shipment of cases (i.e. a case of Dale's Pale Ale priced at like $5 more than the 12-pack price). And they also have an excellent method of rotating stock- the $8.99 make your own sixer display shelf will frequently have top notch beers that usually go for $10.99 for a four-pack. It allows the store to keep fresh beer in stock and the customer to try new things without a major commitment. Just yesterday there was a bunch of Founders Harvest Ale on there, cans of Gordon, etc.

The (relatively) new owners are really commited to their beer customers and it shows. Keep it up, guys!

I never knew about this little slice of beer heaven about half an hour south of me, but I'm sure glad I know about it now. Linwood is a great-looking store, probably one of the best I've ever seen. Everything is crisp, pristine and polished and just lovely to look at. They have all sorts of wines, spirits and brews spread out across the store, and it wasn't at all hard to locate the individual sections. Wines dominate a large part of the floorspace, but the beers have a good-sized portion to themselves.

The selection is amazing, especially for this area. They have a wine rack dedicated for a choice few 750ml offerings, like most of the Unibroue lineup (La Fin du Monde for $6.99!), Delirium, Allagash and Southern Tier. Piled up in front of the row of freezers are a wide variety of sixers and four-packs, ranging from DFH to Samuel Smith's to Troegs to Brooklyn. There's also a rack where you can make your own sixer for $8.99. Unfortunately, it's only from a limited lineup of beers, meaning you can't just take different bottles out of different sixers. But I can understand why they don't want to do it and I didn't hold it against them. The freezers hold an amazing array of brews, mostly in sixer or four-pack form. It was so impressive that I literally spent 15 minutes just going back and forth, looking at everything there was to offer. Some of the more notable breweries represented were Founders (gonna have to come back in spring time to see if I can snag some Kentucky Breakfast Stout!), Ayingers, Great Divide, Weihenstephaner and St Bernardus. It took a lot of willpower not to leave with something from each one of those I just mentioned, trust me.

The prices are decent, pretty much in line with what I'm used to around this area. Aside from the Unibroue beers being a little bit cheaper, I didn't really see much else that was marked down from the usual.

The staff was friendly and helpful, from what I experienced. I was in something of a rush and I didn't really get to converse with them much, but they were personable and eager to serve. I'm going to make it a point to return very soon to get a better experience with them, so I can potentially bump that service score up to perfect.

Definitely one of the better beer store encounters I've had. I can't wait to go back.
