Barleywine aged on Grappa barrels.
15 cl. sample from 375 ml. bottle @ Brassigaume 2013. Pours dark amber, only some bubbles for a head. Nose is tart, very vinous with lots of wild brett, mixed with sweet malts, caramel, toffee & dark fruits goo. Taste is equally challenging & interesting, very dark, vinous, very old barrels, tart, oily herbs, slick, lots of tart wild berries mixed with caramel & toffee malts, brown sugar sweet, sweetness is more in the back, mixed with herbs & hint vinegar. Thick & basically flat. Didn’t guess that it was aged on Grappa barrels, very interesting. I still find sour barley wines and odd thing but this was quite an interesting beast, still not sure if good is the correct word for it, it is far more fascinating.
