Peanut Butter Smidgen Stout

just my second beer from these guys, courtesy of my dad, who has been hooking it up lately! anyone from the northeast knows the chocolate candy these are made with, and i think the beer is a success for a number of reasons. firstly, its not super sweet, some residual sugar year, but this isnt a huge milk stout that coats the teeth and makes the belly turn, its bitter from the roast, somewhat salty from the peanut butter actually, and has as much dark as milk chocolate character, nice grain build and complete fermentation on this, smart to dry it out and balance it. second, its not a massive imperial bomb, at this abv its approachable without alcohol being a distraction or an intimidation factor, and its certainly not hurting for body or depth, so no need to go bigger, i wish more breweries would heed this wisdom, it would be so easy to overdo this, but they held back. inky and dark in color from the can, thick without much head, leggy and rich looking. the peanut butter is there in the nose and taste, but it is appreciably inseparable from the chocolate, which really is cool. i think the smidgen itself is there, which brings me back to my youth, and i love that little salty pop at the end. neat beer, i dont need more than one, but i enjoyed this a lot, even out of holiday context. thanks dad!
