20 miles east of Valparaiso and 1 1/2 hours by car from Santiago, Tauss Bräu is situated in a beautiful valley in the town of Limache.
German brewmaster Robert Tauss just opened the brewery a couple of years ago, and you can really say that brewing here is still hand-made. The area around the brewery is huge, it contains an outside bar, a Biergarten, 2 pools and several cabanas for tourists are planned to be finished end of 2009. He brews a very fine bavarian-style wheat-beer (Weissbier), unfiltered, the best I've ever tasted in south america. Just the foam was a little bit of flimsy construction. But maybe that was just that specific brew. He also brews seasonal beers, like Bock. Unfortunately I wasn't able to try one at my visit. They serve several german and chilean food and barbecue specialties at really fair prices.
When you travel to Chile, Santiago and Valparaiso is a must-see anyway, so don't hesitate to stop for a relaxing afternoon in Tauss Bräu's Biergarten, enjoy a very fine beer and the friendly family Tauss.
