Tasted from cask in City Tap House. Very flat with no carbonation present at all. Slight off-flavor making it taste slightly sour, which was a flaw, although I suspect it was a badly kept or cleaned cask. Very little flavor.

Sampling a cellar temp 750 ml bottle poured into a snifter. the beer pours a clear chestnut hue with creamy beige head of 2 cm foaming up with a fairly aggressive pour. The head fades to a sturdy edge layer and leaves some spotty lacing on the glass.
Aroma is caramel and some spices, nutmeg and cloves dominant. There is no hint of booze or hops that I can pick up.
the first sip reveals a slightly lighter body than expected and very fine tingly carbonation.
Flavor is sweet and malty with toffee and a little brown sugar, which gives way to spices just like the nose. Cloves are heavy just like the nose. Very easy to drink and goes down easy. I enjoy this beer but wish it was a little more complex after buying a big bottle.
It isnt a bad beer but I had higher hopes for this one.

A 25.4 oz bomber of this Dec 2013 release was gifted to me by my publisher - thanks muchly! According to the label and the website, this is a English brown ale brewed with chestnuts and spice It's hopped with Germanic hops and American chestnuts added to the grist at various points in the brew. Beyond that, I don't know too much.
It pours chestnut brown in the glass and is topped with a loose, quickly dissipating head, leaving a slight skim on the surface. The Braun seems spicier on the nose than in flavor. The balance is pretty good but not a round full mouthfeel (as described); actually tasting a bit thin. It's very drinkable and easy going and is well conditioned. This is a beer that could support a number of recipes, including pumpkin pie. Nice beer overall.
