Draft sample at IBG Winterfest 2009.

A - Poured a hazy brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing.

S- Moderate coffee and tart citrus aroma.

T - Medium to heavy sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate duration.

M - Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation.

D - This beer met my expectations.

Thanks for sharing, aforbes10!
Always nice to try a seasonal brew from ABC, as these tend to be their best beers (see: porter). Pours a nice brown/red with little head and no visible carbonation. Nose is just sweetness, strong and sugary and that's about it. Taste is like a new barleywine. Lots of sweetness, some alcohol, and maybe some fruits. Pretty strong and abrupt. Mouthfeel and drinkability are both decent. Actually, for such a high ABV the alcohol in this isn't overwhelming, even on warming.

bought a growler of this to share with shivtim for new years. poured very dark, almost black, but also very transparent. very little head or lacing. looks a bit flat (though its not). Malty and sweet odor. obvious alcohol smell. Taste i at first very harsh and hard to drink with just a bunch of sweet sweet malt and alcohol. After it warms up though some fruity odors come through like cherries and bananas. also a lot of sweet breadiness. the alcohol is still ever present. syrupy mouthfeel, maybe to a fault. thick. I guess it's a fair example of the style overall....but if the brewer at MBC ever reads this i would suggest to him or her that this beer might be better if it were sat down for a year and then served (especially since it's only available on draft).

This beer had a reddish-brown appearance with a small amount of head. Aroma is very fruity and slightly sweet. Taste is somewhat sour with a strong alcohol taste up-front and some bitterness at the finish. Mouthfeel is a very full-one. Like a big red wine, this beer is substantial in your mouth and makes you slightly pucker. Not bad, but not really for me.
