Summer offering by Mishawaka Brewing Co. The website stated: Summer of Love Ale was brewed to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1967 Summer of Love that brought us Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead, Haight-Asbury and a lot more.
It was brewed as pale ale with great hop flavor. It is pale yellow in color, with a refreshing hop aroma and flavor. Its lower alcohol content makes it a great session beer.
A: Cloudy yellow color with a nice puffy head. There was a steady stream of bubbles and no lacing.
S: Tons of grapefruit aroma. This could pass as ruby red grapefruit juice. There was a mild sweetness go to with the funk of the grapefruit. Pretty nice.
T: Oh yes. I am not sure of the hops used, but it has a huge grapefruit aroma. This has more grapefruit taste than centennial IPA from Founders. It is pretty complex though. The beer is bitter sweet. Not too much bitter and just enough malty sweetness to make everything come together. After having 8 beers in a sampler platter at the restaurant this was the shinning star. So much so that I ordered a full pint for full enjoyment.
M: Light and crisp. Finishes rather dry.
D: The ABV is low and the taste is good. I would call it VERY drinkable.
Overall: By far and away the best beer I sampled at Mishawaka Brewing. I had 10 total beer as the restaurant and this and their founder's stout were the only two worth writing about. This one very much so. I really like the brew and expressed to the waitress and the bartender who this should be a seasonal beer which is worth of bottling. For the folks in Indiana lets hope they come thru.
