Copenhagen 29/12 2021. 66 cl bottle. A Christmas gift from the in-laws. A Drunkard Santa looking hungrily at a bottle of Menabrea beer on the label.
Pours clear dark amber with a big white head. Stable. Settles as a thin but consistent layer of foam covering the surface of the beer. No lacing.
Aroma is moderately intense with a sweet, lightly toasted, malty odor mingling with honey and syrup. Sweet pale malts, caramel, toffee. Cardboard and bread. Whiff of grainy sourness.
Medium strong carbonation. Thin, watery, lively and tingling texture.
Flavor s moderately intense with a medium strong sweetness followed by a moderately strong bitterness. Aftertaste is sweetish with a light bitter undertone.Lingers shortly. Finish is bit watery.
Quite straight, sweet and malty brew.

Dec. 2013: 660 ml bottle, fom the Norwegian importer. ABV is 5.2%. Copper colour, moderate off-white head. Malty and dusty aroma, but mostly of unfermented wort, hints of stale jam. The flavour is also malty and dusty, distinct fruity notes too. Low bitterness. Nothing particularly "Christmasy" about it. Not undrinkable, but not a beer I’d spend money on.

Bright ruby red appearance, with a good, compact foam, beige in color.
In the smell some maltiness, light caramel, red fruit notes, just a hint.
Simila in the mouth, with a more evident sugary taste, but still clean. Maybe a bit too clean, too.
The beer has no defects, it is clean, but it is also anonimous and it lacks of personality.
